HOUSTON: The jam-packed audience of more than 12,000 people was indeed left breathless at the Bollywood 2015 ‘Breathless’ show held at Miller Outdoor Theatre on September 12. Kavita Rao is the owner and choreographer of a dance company called Karmagraphy—a hidden treasure of South-Asian entertainment. Rao talks about the vulnerability of being a brown artist, rejecting a performing opportunity at Trump’s inauguration, and the debut of her brainchild “Aaja—A Tale of Karmic Destiny.”

A celebration of dance from India and Israel
Two Los Angeles-based contemporary dance ensembles — one inspired by Indian dance traditions and the other by Israeli folk dance — will perform choreography in a bill that celebrates each country’s unique history and customs. Keshet Chaim Dance Ensemble and Karmagraphy will share the stage for “Lands of Light” at Plaza del Sol Performance Hall at Cal State Northridge on Sept. 17 and 18.
